Variable speed drives are everywhere — HVAC systems, conveyors, machine tools, agricultural equipment. They let you adjust output speed without changing motors or adding gearboxes. The belt is what makes it work, and it’s also what fails when the engineering isn’t right.
We’ve been manufacturing variable speed belts since 2008, when a European HVAC distributor asked if we could match a Continental specification they were having trouble sourcing. We figured it out, and variable speed belts have been a growing part of our industrial belt range ever since.

Unlike fixed-ratio V-belt drives, variable speed drives use adjustable pulleys. The pulley faces move closer together or farther apart, changing the effective diameter where the belt rides. As the belt moves up or down in the pulley groove, the speed ratio changes.
This requires a belt that can:
Standard V-belts fail quickly in variable speed applications because they’re not designed for this abuse. Variable speed belts use wider angles, different compounds, and reinforced sidewalls to handle the unique stresses.
Standard compound for most variable speed applications. Good balance of grip, wear resistance, and cost.
Better heat resistance for high-duty-cycle applications. Recommended for HVAC systems running continuously.
For heavy-duty applications with high torque loads. Reduces stretch and improves power transmission efficiency.
Variable speed belts require tighter tolerances than standard V-belts — the sidewall angle and surface finish directly affect performance. Our IATF 16949 certified quality system ensures:
No. Standard V-belts have a 40° angle; variable speed pulleys are designed for 26° or 28° belts. Using the wrong belt will cause rapid wear, slipping, and premature failure.
You need the belt cross-section (HI, HJ, etc. or 1422V, 1922V, etc.) and the effective length. If you have the old belt, the part number should indicate both. If not, measure the pulley dimensions and operating range, and we can calculate the correct specification.
